We’ll admit it. Covering the niche that we do here at ChoiceGear, we sometimes think we’ve seen it all. Then, all of a sudden, we stumble over something truly remarkably new to us, and we realize just how big and broad a world it is out there when considering goods for the most ardent auto enthusiasts. Take for instance these wooden car models from a startup design firm Detailed Craft based out of Indonesia.

A few weeks ago we were surfing our Facebook wall feed when a guy by the name of Moch Noor Afianto posted to one of our favorite Porsche 991 owner groups some photos of some recent projects he’d been working on. No, it didn’t include a 991-generation Porsche 911, but it did include the most remarkable photos of some vintage cars apparently built entirely from wood. Obviously, we were pretty intrigued. So, we did a little digging.

It seems Afianto wanted to share news of his new business Detailed Craft (found here on Facebook, as well as here on Instagram). This shop, based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia lists itself as a producer of wooden “miniature” vehicles including cars, motorcycles, bicycles tanks aircraft, trains and “others”. Also, probably obvious at this point, they’re more than capable of making these products in life size… yes, even the tanks.

Okay, so it’s the cars we’re most interest in. Sure, we’d love most any scale, but the 1:1 stuff is what’s seen here and it’s fascinating. We see everything from Porsches (906 Carrera 6 and also 917K), Ferrari 250 GTO and Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, to a more current Bugatti. They say they can make virtually anything, and based on the photos we’re not exactly going to argue with that. Even cooler, certain details are true to life, things such as operational gullwing doors on both the Mercedes and the Porsche 906.

What would you use them for exactly? Beyond the idea of decor, and frankly you’d need car-sized space for such decor, we’re not exactly sure. For the car guy who has everything though… we’re betting he doesn’t have one of these.
