News of two more 2020 Lego Speed Champions kits came today via Car & Driver Magazine. And, while Audi and Ferrari aren’t exactly new in the Speed Champions garage, the models reach into different parts of the brands represented. In Audi’s case, it’s a Group B spec Sport quattro rally car. For Ferrari, it’s the F8 Tributo.
The timing is interesting. This is all tied to the Los Angels Auto Show, where lots of press are already keyed into anything automotive. If you follow Speed Champions new rollout cadence though, don’t get your hopes up that these will look great under the Christmas Tree. New kits like these tend to drop after the first of the year.
So let’s take a closer look. The first is based on the 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1 racecar (#76897) in what looks to be Group B rally spec. The car wears the yellow and white livery from the WRC. The set is 250 pieces, includes a minifig in Audi driving suit and costs $19.99.
That minifig appears to be male. We were hoping they’d take the opportunity to make a Michele Mouton minifig. Given next summer marks the 35th anniversary of her second (and record-breaking) run at Pike’s Peak, it would have been cool. That said, the car’s not exactly Pike’s Peak spec. Pardon our nerddom.
Next up is the Ferrari F8 Tributo (#76895). This set is 275 pieces, includes its own minifig and will also retail at $19.99.
Other confirmed Speed Champions kits for 2020 include the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo, a McLaren Senna and aa two-car Jaguar set including FE05 Formula E car and i-Pace racecar.
