Description
As much an automotive icon as any, the 356 Porsche represents both a silhouette and packaging philosophy which is instantly recognizable. As relevant today as it was innovative at it’s inception more that half a century ago, a direct linage can be traced to it’s great, great, great, great, great grandson the 991.
Developed by Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche in the late 1940s, the 356 was based on the idea that “…if you had enough power in a small car it is nicer to drive than if you have a big car which is also overpowered. And it is more fun.”
The iconic design of the 356 was penned by designer/engineer Erwin Komenda, fresh off his prior legend of automotive design the Volkswagen Beetle under the guidance of Ferdinand Senior.
