Porsche’s participation in rally racing is often overlooked, but there is a rich history of 911’s competing on tarmac, dirt, and snow dating back to the 1960’s. In the mid 80’s the factory team even managed 2 wins at the grueling Paris Dakar Rally with the incredible “Group B” 959 beast.

Back when you could pick up a clapped out 930 without sacrificing your first born I used to talk about building up a nice rally inspired lifted 911 for my Detroit daily driver. Now they’re all the rage, some really cool builds are being put together, and it looks like people are having lots of fun! For now I’ll have to settle for the 2d version of my dream car.
