Description
In 1976 the FIA introduced the new Group 5 “Special Production Car” rules, which allowed extensive modifications to production-based cars that were previously homologated in FIA racing. In addition to the World Championship for Makes and World Endurance Championship, the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM) in Germany also adopted the Group 5 rules of the period. The rules stated the hood, roof, doors and rail panel were left unmodified, which manufacturers like Porsche, BMW and Ford exploited to the fullest extent. Massive fender flares (often housing 19″ wheels), huge wings and turbocharging were just a few of Group 5’s defining characteristics.
We’ve assembled eight of the most recognizable cars from this memorable period in motorsport in large format and vibrant color.
